I called customer service yeasterday and the response is that they were processing June22 cases and they would get to July 2 in 2-3 weeks.

This situation can affect any of us at anytime. My dear husband was diagnosed terminal 4th May 06 and passed 13th May 06, the day he passed my sons immigration cases died with my husband

Unfortunate that many did not get your sarcasm and might have given you bad reps. No worries, I gave you a green :)
And none of us should even complain when millions of illegals are suddenly made legal by the Government and they jump the line in front of us for no fault of ours and there are EB3s still waiting from 2001. The illegals have taken a risk right by jumping across the border and staying here illegally???

You could be looking at the wrong Service Center for the Receipting Update.
For example, you sent your application to NSC and now, you're looking at NSC Receipting Update which tells us "July 29"....and you question, I sent my application on July 5, why until now I don't have my receipts?
The most logical answer is that if your application was sent to NSC but transferred to TSC; you should look at TSC Receipting Update which says "July 2".

Like many others on these forums, I have given up significant opportunities because I believed mistakenly that the GC mess would be cleared up in 2-3 years. Sometimes that does lead to extreme frustration - My wife often jokes that when I do actually receive my GC, I will have lost a very convenient excuse that the lack of one is holding me back. :-)
To those who are starting down this path, I have this piece of unsolicited advice. If you feel that you are depressed and this is affecting your health and/or your family, it may be best to move on - the world is a big place, full of opportunity; opportunities that cannot be quantified by an O*NET job code. Enjoy everyday while you can - you only live once.

My 485 application was sent to TSC on July 24th (received on July 25th). No receipt yet and don't know whether the checks have been cashed or not -- my attorney is enjoying her vacation!

Dont bark at not donating, will donate if this issue is given serious consideration as well.
Getting sick of this movement in dates.
Illegal guy in US makes more money & without any hassle.
Trying to stay legally hurts very much for the past 9 years.
Atleast they should allow to pre-file I-485 so that atleast guys like me (when we missed july 2007 race) can just file and complete the verification process in I-485.
Dont bark at not donating, will donate if this issue is given serious consideration as well.

As I said dont just take the example I gave, consider all the visa bulletin for the last 30+ years and you will fidn a lot of examples.
Pitha -- you forget one very important thing -- they still wasted 10K visas in 2006. So in Aug and July they had not actually consumed all the visas -- they just expected to in August and didn't manage to.

Hell, quite a few of the poll questions say the "amnesty" is unfair to those people who play by the rules...
I say.. focus our efforts on us for the time being.. differentiate ourselves from the undocumented..

I agree: you should take legal advice from as many attorneys as possible. In my experience with multiple attorneys on these topics (i.e., self-employed vs. W2 on EAD, and "filing" AC21), I got conflicting pieces of advice. So the only resources I could base my thinking on are USCIS and IRS.

What about people who were stuck for years in backlog and then got laid off and could not port their priority dates. I know a few who come came to US in 99 and now have a priority date of 2007 with a new employer....It should clearly be based on number of years of stay in US or expereince
